Discover the art of traditional kamkake baking in a wood-fired oven at a historic farm in Hemnes. Learn about a local recipe with roots back to the Viking Age – and enjoy a taste of the finished result.
At Inderdalen Farm, you'll take part in a northern Norwegian baking experience surrounded by history. Kamkake is a traditional pastry from Hemnes, believed to date back to the Viking era, and you'll learn how it’s made following time-honoured methods.
The dough, made from simple ingredients like flour, milk, yeast, and margarine, is shaped into small rounds. You’ll use a special patterned rolling pin to press the signature grid pattern before the pastries are baked in a wood-fired oven – just as they have been for generations.
Inderdalen Farm has remained in the same family since 1742, and today’s 8th generation will guide you through the experience, sharing stories of farm life and preserving local food culture. The session ends with a tasting of fresh kamkake straight from the oven.
